Boy’s water polo is going through a difficult transition this year. The Moors lost a good amount of players after many of last year’s group graduated. With the team now consisting of mostly new members, they have to establish a sense of unity. The Moors currently hold a record of 1-12, but nonetheless seem to be feeling good about their improvement in and out of the pool. Their confidence and enthusiasm must be a sure sign that they are dedicated and yearn for success and for a good experience on this team. They look to be making changes so that next year they will have better luck and will be able to keep up with the other teams throughout each game.

As water polo is a team sport, the group is hoping to play better together as a team in order to produce better results in the future. As the seasons goes on, each week the Moors are making changes and are slowly but surely transforming into a well-rounded, more experienced team.

“I think the team has progressed in the aspect of utilizing plays we learn in practice, and being team players,” junior Andrew Sandoval said.

The new players are learning to obtain leadership roles as they will be the future of the program. Some of the returning players are also gaining leadership roles this year, because they are moving up in terms of age and experience. With a mixture of both returners and newcomers, the Moors have created an atmosphere and player dynamic that has seemed to work in their favor in terms of their close ties with one another.

“Even with new faces on team, they bond quickly and it feels like the team is one big, family,” Sandoval said.

The Moors have their next game at Schurr High School on Tuesday, October 9th at 3:15, where they are hoping to come home with a victory.
