What Matters Most

Apple users were greeted with the next iOS update on September 17. The only problem? The bagel emoji looked “frozen” to some, rather than “fresh.” Millions of iPhone fans shared their outrage and in response, a new update was introduced with newly illustrated bagel, this time with a fluffier look and a layer of cream cheese in between. This relays the message that the more you advocate for something, the more likely you are to get it.

Although that is a great mindset to have, it is most often not the outcome. Sometimes fighting for the small things is not worth it. Advocating for a particular class change or even asking a simple question of a campus security guard can have little to no result.

In high school, too many students stress out over a bad grade on one small assignment that will not have much of an effect on their overall grade. Or they spend hours on 200 takes of a selfie just to get the perfect “I woke up like this” Instagram post. More energy must be put for what truly matters.
