On Sept. 25, the Alhambra JV tennis team went up against the Montebello girls in an away conference. The match was the second game for the Lady Moors’ Almont League season. The match began like any other ordinary game for the team as Alhambra was the first one to gain the lead. With an advantage of two sets in favor of Alhambra, it appeared as if it would end as another win.

Immediately after the Lady Moors gained a three match lead, however, the Montebello team retaliated by winning the next set, an action that increased the tension of the game. With the game at 3-1, Montebello continued to maintain a two point difference between them and Alhambra. After many sets were scored, the Alhambra Girls kept the two point lead and finished the match at a score of 10-8. The win left the team at a season record of 2-0 and with high hopes for the remainder of the season.

“We want to win League this year but regardless of what happens, I know [the] team will always overcome any difficulty and find a way to transform our experiences into advantages,” senior player Angel He said.

Aside from winning the league, the team also aims to improve their skill set after every game. They plan to do so by looking back at their previous games in order to find weaknesses. Alhambra’s first season match against Schurr was a landslide win as it ended in a score of 17-1. The Alhambra JV girls tennis team will next face the Schurr High School Spartans again on Oct. 4.
