With the fall sports season coming to an end, it has become increasingly apparent that the Moors are struggling when it comes to sports. Many factors may play into this including poor coaching and outdated sports facilities. However, it is also clear that our school lacks a key component for making our teams play well: morale.
It’s no secret that spirit and morale is a key component of success inside sports. Not only does it help motivate players to do better, but it also helps strengthen the community bond at school. While it is understandable that not everyone can attend away games, to play at a home game only to see the space half filled with supporters of the opposing team and sparse support from peers is rather disappointing. Despite opposing teams at home games having smaller sections, it seems their supporters are often louder and more spirited than the Moors.
Without support and enthusiasm from students, sports often lack motivation to win aside from awards. When students don’t show up to away games, despite other teams always having guests, the athletes are going to feel unmotivated. For teams to perform well, athletes need the spirit and backing from their school community, or else they will not have significant motivation to win.
