On March 8, the Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved a resolution to condemn Russian President Vladimir Putin’s order on the invasion of Ukraine, according to CNN.

“The city of Los Angeles stands firmly with Ukraine and its people and strongly condemns President Putin’s reckless actions against Ukraine,” the resolution said.

The resolution would call for both foreign and domestic divestment of investments and holdings from Russia. Councilman Paul Koretz proposed this resolution to condemn Russia’s military assaults and the political support from the countries that stand with Russia.

The Los Angeles Unified School Board also passed a resolution allowing students and employees to raise money to support humanitarian organizations. Not only that, the district aims to welcome Ukrainian war refugees. While condemning Russians who support Putin’s military actions, the district promises to acknowledge members of the Los Angeles Russian community who are not “representatives” of Putin’s beliefs.

On March 19, a large demonstration was held in Downtown Los Angeles to show support for Ukraine. According to Fox 11, the rally was held in front of City Hall. The crowd demanded an end to war and asked U.S. leaders to provide military aid to Ukraine and close airspace in the country. Further rallies and fundraisers are planned to be held with enthusiastic Angelinos seeking justice for the Ukraine cause.

“Russia’s leaders are totally to be blamed for this,” senior Flora Chen said. “Putin was not considering the consequences when he started this conflict. What are they trying to achieve by forcing Ukraine into their territory?”

The Los Angeles County Office of Education has also  shared resources to help parents educate their children regarding explicit war information and news.

“Overall, these current events regarding the bombings are unfortunate and devastating to hear,” junior Yumi Mintin said. “In our modern day, war shouldn’t be the solution to our problems.”

The L.A. Times reports that supporters in Los Angeles are optimistic that NATO and its members will come up with a solution and finally put an end to the Russian Invasion of Ukraine.
